Passed General and Extra today!
« on: August 12, 2012, 07:20:37 PM »
Took the general and extra tests today and passed them both!!!  The VE's said they couldn't tell us how many were missed on the test?!?  Is that something new?

Gwinnett ARS did the testing, 11 were in the room.  Two were taking general, including myself.  As far as I know everybody passed.  One new tech also passed the general test, started in on the extra test too.  Several new techs failed the general but there were still a few in the room when I left so dont know if they all passed the remaining tests.  Hope they did!

Congrats!!!

Strange that the VE's wouldn't tell you how many you missed, that was never an issue (thou I had to ask).  Question were they ARRL VEs or through another VEC ?

Congrats!

That's strange about them not telling you.  I had a VE give me the thumbs up & hand signal on # missed while another was doublechecking the test.

Interesting, whatever VEC they they were accredited by may have different rules.  Each VEC is allowed to set specific rules for their VEs to follow ( in addition to the FCC requirements)

OK I'm assuming I will automatically be assigned a new 2x2 callsign.  I noticed that my operator class has been changed to extra on the fcc uls system today.  How soon does a callsign get issued afterwards?

OK I'm assuming I will automatically be assigned a new 2x2 callsign.  I noticed that my operator class has been changed to extra on the fcc uls system today.  How soon does a callsign get issued afterwards?  Last one assigned in region 4 was ak4xp.  It'd be cool if I got ak4xt,  ak4xx or ak4xw assigned!

My understanding is that, if you were going to get a new cal, that the new call should have shown up at the same time as the license change would be reflected.  How are you searching in ULS? If you are searching by call try getting your FRN and search off that and see if there is a second call listed in the search results.

Also just checking did you check the box on the form to say that you wanted a new systematic call ( I believe the default behavior is to keep your existing call unless you checked the box).  If somehow this didn't get checked you can request a new systematic call as a separate request (or request a vanity call if there is one that suits you)

I believe on the app, you could have asked for the next available extra call.  Now i think your only shot is a vanity call.
