BAOFENG UV-3R MK II DUAL BAND Radios.....
« on: March 23, 2012, 07:55:06 PM »
Just bought a pair of these off a Hong Kong distributer, along with the Programming Cable, including Postage, for just under $100US, today. Once they get here I will program them up, and run them thru a Bench and Field Test. I will then write up a report for you folks, on what I find. Looks to me, that they will compliment my Maxon SP7102s for local Comms, and being Dual-Band, and Part 90 Type Accepted, will add the GMRS/FRS, and UHF Business Frequencies, into the mix, for the 99 Channel capability. Might just be handy, for the BOB, when I am down in the FlatLands...  We will see....

Great Radio for the $

Some intermod issues from strong TV even with CTCSS (place a finger on the Ant to bring it down)

Mine worked fine and dandy until my computer glitched.
Now I have to download all the drivers again.
I think it was a mechanical problem, truth be told, something to do with the loose nut beating on the keyboard!
(I program mine through the laptop)

I'll be getting one of these as well. The KG Commander software is an easy download and makes things easy. Couple of our SKYWARN members have them & they've shown xlnt service. On the shoulder, moving on a bicycle, hit repeater 22 miles away, good system around here anyway but that's darn good.

One of the gents who posted an eham review covers the steps to overcome the common lament of not being able to manually program the thing away from software. You can, as he points out, there are just some button presses involved. (As SigInt correctly pointed out some reviewers often have their VFO stuck in whine-only mode for anything they can't figure out in a few seconds.)

Pretty good bang for the buck. This will let me downsize by SKYWARN grab bag in a big way, relinquishing it back to its intended field-expedient comms bag; my 817 gives me 2m in the shack.

Jeebers, I was just re-reading some stuff & realized I was thinking Wouxon at the time you posted, vice the Baofeng.
Sorry about that if the KG Commander s/w didn't work out. (smacks head, blaming age)

How did the Baofengs work out?
 :)
