acronyms and abbreviations
« on: February 04, 2012, 01:47:13 PM »
it gets kind of confusing and a bit frustrating reading some of these
posts when i am so new to all this Ham. was just wondering if there
is a way to post all the terms in one easy accessible place so us
beginners will know what the more advanced people are talking
about.

Re: Unique or fun doin's on a HAM, you replied with a few and explained
somewhat, but what is APRS? QSL?   a little more detail on some of the terms
would be greatly appreciated.

Very good point, Ms Tweeted.  I try to always write out the item the first time I use it and put the abbreviation in parentheses with it.  There are lots of acronyms.  Just wait until you start seeing folks writing about the Q signals.  They're similar to the 10 code used in law enforcement.  For example, QTH means your location.  QRP means low power transmitter.  Oh, and BTW, XMTR is the abbreviation for transmitter!   :o

Glad to have you on our site.  Thanks for joining!
