Ham Stick Question
« on: September 09, 2017, 09:59:23 AM »
I was thinking about putting a 40 and 80m ham sticks on my 30' tower here at the house. Dose the antenna have to be grounded to the tower its self or is it suppose to be insulated from it? I know it meant to be a mobile antenna but its simple and easy to put up on a tower.

the connector you use to attach them connects off the center conductor to the antenna and the shield connection to ground.
you must have a ground for them to work, and my guess is that your tower will work just fine.

there is an alternate connector that uses 2 hamsticks, makes a dipole, each connection on the coax goes to its own hamstick, and the tower is insulated

also, remember to waterproof it before you put it up.
all mine rotted from the inside from rain water

(not that hard to build yourself either)
the tower is going to be not electrically connected at all.

Put them in the vertical dipole position and the do pretty well. Horizontal o.k. Buy a 3/8"x24 tap and make your own mount  from a CB mirror mount.
