Field Day 2018
« on: June 24, 2018, 06:04:50 PM »
Points and total contacts TBD.  We had 2 stations running CW, one completely FLDIGI, one on 15 meters exclusively and the GOTA station on 20 and 40, and another flopping around between 15,  20 and 40.  Preliminary estimates are close to 1K contacts.  The actual FLDIGI count is 98.  All numbers subject to confirmation and dupe eliminations.  Will report when the numbers are crunched.

hehehe.  There was enough rf in the air at the club site to cook hotdogs.  For what it's worth and future investigations, the FLDIGI rig was spattering all over and giving the code heads fits on altogether different bands.  Also might explain why the local FM broadcast station was obliterated within 25 yards of the antennas.

Hey ghrit

I have been so busy trying to make a living at real estate I worked that whole weekend and did not get a change to do anything for FD.

One day I will make some time and get the the high country here in AZ to enjoy it.

Interim report for our field day, I don't have the point count yet, and verification is pending.

Statistically we did better than all previous years.  We had 938
contacts with an additional 19 contacts for GOTA.  CW was the favorite
mode this year with 2 stations running CW by about 4 or 5 different
operators.  The digital station did 98 contacts.

Here's the summary -

2017 saw 744 total contacts for 979 points
2018 with 938 contacts for 1502 points.  On top of the
2018 numbers, we've got the GOTA (19 contacts for 19 ponts).

19 GOTA?  Thats what did it for me. Was curious from a prepping stand point, found a FD event about an hour away. Went there go 2 or 3 contacts on Phone amd signed up for www.hamtestonline.com the next day. Had my general on Aug 12 and extra by the next April.

Went to visit Mom in NC, so took a bit and ran by the old Rowan Amateur Radio Society field day event. Had a great time the short time I was there.  They have two Korean War radio operators that are in their 80's and still come out and run CW. I wish I could work it like they do.

long ago I went to field day,
then years later I use to at least know when I missed field day,
now it slips by and I have no clue.
I would be a bit sad by this, but I am sure I will forget tomorrow.
