Are we doing a good job or not? What can we do better
« on: February 16, 2012, 07:49:58 PM »
OK we have been at this for almost 2 whole weeks now, seems like forever  ;D

Let me and the gang know how we are doing.  If were are doing good tell us, if we suck let us have it.

If there is room for improvement, tell us what we can do to improve the site.
The only dumb question is the one that did not get asked!!

I'm really liking it. Everyone seems pretty knowledgable and willing to help.

For a bunch of old senile guys, yall remember stuff and are able to pass it on pretty well. That's good too, as we will probably have to tell it back to you in a couple of weeks.

Like I said when I found this, great idea to have the brains without the tinfoil in one place

And it got me off my ass and into HTO to pass Extra.

Was worth every dime of somebodies money just for that

Edit: How about an EMCOMM forum? I wanna see what everybody else has built for deployment boxes

Can you put up these requests in the website suggestions area so everyone can discuss on them separately?

The quality of the site and of the members is wonderful. This is a great forum and it combines two very prominent aspects of my life: survival preparation and communications. Its nice to feel like I can post something here and actually get useful and helpful information from each reply rather than several replies that are just wasting oxy...I mean server space like happens more and more frequently on a certain other board I am a member of.

Thx lne. I will be sending out an email to everyone to find out how we can make it better.  It seems the traffic has dropped way off.

A thanks button or some other way to indicate and rate the usefulness of a specific reply would be great, something that doesn't require posting a reply. If such already exists, ;et me know, but I didn't see it. Also, when I reply to something, rather than take me back to the thread it takes me back to the parent forum. WHile its not a big deal, it is kind of annoying to have to go back into the thread to verify the reply.

If you look on the left under a persons name and avatar and what not there is a [Like] link.  You can use this to "Like" a specific post, this gives the person that wrote that post Karma, you will notice the Karma number as well, this is the number of times that someone has liked their posts (or something close to that)

If you click on "Profile" at the top then "Account Settings"
Then on the screen that comes up click on "Modify Profile" and then "Look and Layout" you can from that screen control where it takes you after posting ( along with other settings.)

I know that the basis of the board is Ham related but a lot of folks have side band radios and equipment that is just as powerful as Ham equipment. With that said, a section for side banders might draw more people in.

With my equipment I can talk around the globe upper and lower side band and easily around North America on the low channels. I have talked to many truck drivers around the country that have similar equipment (albeit a lot smaller set up) installed in their rigs. Prepared comms is more what I am interested in, not just Ham per say.

I'm pretty sure that SSB (upper or lower) falls under HAM radio.  (Maybe I misunderstood your comment.)  But to my understanding, HAM covers all modes of amateur communications whether it's HF/VHF/UHF.  Could you please explain what you perceive as the difference?  Thanks.

I will let him speak for himself, but he is likely talking about SSB on 11 meters (ie SSB on CB frequencies)...  essentially all the theory is the same, but no license required.
