Hey guys & gals...
total newbie here just getting started studying. There's a decent sized group local here (as you'd expect with as many storms as we get). Just saying hiya... and please go easy on me, while I ask y'all some silly questions. I know software pretty well -- but can't deal with a/v or fax or copy machines to save my life. Which is it for fax? Face up or face down?? I NEVER remember. So I used a sharpie to write it on the danged machine.

Welcome from down the road in Myrtle Beach

Sac needs to study for both Tech and Gen at the same time then you 2 can praxtice some NVIS
-
We're a bit far for that, but I routinely talk to others in the area at about 10 watts.
-
Your between 150-200 miles. NVIS should work
-
It should, but never seems to. Some speculate the ocean is the cause, some the terrain; I can work Columbia at 150 miles all day, but going East about 75-100 reliably. We've done pretty well with 10-20 miles of groundwave due to the conductivity of the dirt though.

I have no experence with salt water. I live on a manmade lake but my antennas are over 100 feet from it. The ARRL section manager tried to get me to string a random wire up 3 80 foot tall palm trees next to the lake and run radials into the water and toss a few bags of rock salt on the radz to see how it worked.

I use to put up a 1/4 wave vertical for 40M and put my ground into the San Francisco bay
it worked fantastic,
but I never payed attention to if it was directional or not
-
Nothing better for RF Ground than, Salt Water.... Just as an Maritime Mobile Operator.....

Knowing her, she is stocking up on tinfoil and has abadoned this effort ;D

Hey AD ..don't knock tin foil..
It can make a nice radial field in a pinch..
Not easy to get it rolled back up ,but .....

Roger that. Sac likes to chew on it ;D
-
Yeah, yeah.... I won't deny it. But I also still have quite the "hat" collection - as in a lot of varied obligations.
Making progress on hamtestonline. Trying to only pay attention to "hats" that matter - and ignore the ones that never fit well anyway.

You go girl 8)
