Jeep antenna mount
« on: February 05, 2012, 06:52:11 PM »
I have a 2003 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with a soft top.
I also have a Yaesu FT-530 2M/70CM  HT.
What would be a good antenna to use? And where would be a good place to mount it?
Thanks.

This is what I have:

http://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-001570

and

http://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-005907

that lip mount would mount on the lip of your hood..

Or you can probably get a mount that attaches to the tire rack in the back.. With jeeps there are so many more options.. You can even drill into the tire rack mount and put one in.

You are the guy in GA i think right? There is a ham radio outlet down off Buford highway in town.... It's worth it to take a trip there, to eyeball everything in one place, and finger bang stuff.. I know it's probably 45 minute drive for you, its about 30 for me.. But they have EVERYTHING and the guys are knowledgeable.  They do make cheaper mounts, and antennas. As well.

Don't forget the little adapter to hook up to your HT..

146.820
146.880
145.47
146.805
147.150

are all active repeaters you should be able to hit with that new antenna and that HT.. Of course, don't until you get your license..

For manual:

http://www.qsl.net/4/4x6on/RADIO%20MANUALS/YAESU/YAESU--FT-530-User-Manual.pdf

For Atlanta based Repeaters:
http://kc4gzx.tripod.com/kc4gzx/rptga02m.htm

You should be able to hit a good many of them.. Heck I was hitting the 145.47 from an HT on the Appilacian Trail a few months ago.
